Built with the alpha-gal community

Grocery aisles, minus the guesswork.

Alpha-gal hides in everyday groceries, in gelatin, in “natural flavors,” even in your vitamins. Opie flags what to double-check based on what you have actually reacted to. No spreadsheets, no guessing.

Illustrative mockup, not a live scan. Based on ingredient labels and what you log. Not medical advice, and not a guarantee of safety.

Everyone’s alpha-gal is different.

Alpha-gal syndrome does not affect everyone the same way. Some people react to a trace amount. Others tolerate more. A reaction can show up hours after you eat, which makes it hard to tell what caused it. Generic safe or unsafe lists cannot account for any of that.

A fixed ingredient database is a start, but it treats every person with alpha-gal the same. Your own history, what you ate, how you reacted, and how severe it was, is the part no static list can capture.

What Opie does

Built around how alpha-gal actually works for you, not a one-size-fits-all list.

  • Learns your body, not everyone else's

Track what you eat and how you react. Over time what Opie shows you adapts to your own patterns instead of one blanket safe or unsafe call.

  • Scan the label, see what to double-check

Point your camera at an ingredient list. Opie reads it and flags the parts worth a second look, including the ones a label does not spell out.

  • A living database, built by the people who need it

The alpha-gal community adds and checks foods, so coverage keeps growing instead of going stale.

  • Know where to start

A clear first step instead of scattered searches, especially if you were just diagnosed.

Opie will never tell you a product is safe. That call stays with you and your doctor.

Questions you might have

Is this a replacement for my allergist or doctor?
No. Nothing here is medical advice or a medical clearance. It helps you track your own patterns. Always follow your care team's guidance on what is safe for you.
How is this different from other alpha-gal apps?
Most tools give everyone the same safe or unsafe answer from a fixed list. Opie learns from your own tracked reactions and severity, and the food database is community-maintained rather than fixed.
Who decides if a community-added food is accurate?
We are still working out the verification process. It will not be anyone adding anything with no review. We will share details as that firms up.
What does it cost?
Free to start, with a monthly scan allowance and no card. Opie+ adds unlimited scanning, Ask Opie for restaurants and recipes, and scanning beyond food.
Is my data safe with you?
Your flags, your scans, and your reaction log are yours. They are not sold and not shared. If you leave your email for the checklist instead, that address is only used to send it to you and the occasional update about Opie.

Opie helps you read ingredient labels and track your own reaction patterns. It is not a medical product and it cannot tell you whether a food is safe for you. Always read labels and talk with your care team.
